Any revised Terms shall become effective immediately upon publication on our website unless otherwise stated.
Customers are encouraged to review the latest version before placing orders or requesting repairs.
The version of the Terms accepted by the Customer at the time of placing an order or requesting a repair shall apply to that transaction unless otherwise required by law.
- 9. Repair Services
Phones & Things Ltd provides repair services for a wide range of electronic devices, including but not limited to mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers and related technology products.
Whilst every reasonable effort will be made to successfully repair a customer's device, no repair can ever be guaranteed.
Electronic devices are complex products. Hidden faults, previous repairs, liquid damage, impact damage, component deterioration or manufacturer defects may prevent a successful repair despite reasonable skill and care being exercised.
By submitting a device for repair, the Customer acknowledges and accepts these risks.
10. Diagnostic Inspection
Every device submitted for repair will first undergo an inspection and diagnostic assessment.
The fault reported by the Customer may not represent every fault affecting the device.
Additional faults may only become apparent after:
- Opening the device;
- Removing damaged components;
- Carrying out diagnostic testing;
- Installing replacement parts;
Completing software testing.
Accordingly, any initial diagnosis or estimate provided before inspection should be regarded as preliminary only.
11. Estimates & Quotations
Any quotation provided before physical inspection of a device shall be treated as an estimate only.
Following diagnosis, Phones & Things Ltd will provide a written quotation confirming:
- The repair required;
- The estimated cost;
- Any additional faults discovered;
Any recommendations.
No repair work beyond the agreed quotation shall be undertaken without Written Approval from the Customer.
12. Written Customer Approval
Where additional repair work becomes necessary, the Customer must provide Written Approval before any further work is carried out.
For the purposes of these Terms & Conditions, Written Approval shall mean:
- Email sent from the Customer;
- A reply submitted through the official Phones & Things Ltd website contact form;
Any future secure customer repair portal operated by Phones & Things Ltd.
The following shall NOT constitute valid authorisation:
- Telephone conversations;
- Verbal discussions;
- Voicemail messages;
- WhatsApp calls;
- Video calls;
- Social media messages;
- Messages passed through third parties;
Any verbal instruction.
Where additional repairs are identified, Phones & Things Ltd shall suspend work until Written Approval has been received.
This policy protects both the Customer and Phones & Things Ltd by ensuring a clear and verifiable audit trail of all repair instructions and approvals.
13. Customer Responsibilities
Before submitting any device for repair, the Customer agrees that they shall:
Ensure all important data has been backed up.
Remove SIM cards where possible.
Remove memory cards where possible.
Remove any accessories not required for testing.
Provide accurate contact information.
Provide passwords or PIN codes where necessary for testing.
Inform Phones & Things Ltd of any previous repairs or known faults.
Failure to provide accurate information may delay or prevent completion of the repair.
14. Data Backup & Data Loss
Customers are solely responsible for ensuring that all personal and business data has been fully backed up before submitting any device.
Whilst every reasonable care is taken during repairs, Phones & Things Ltd accepts no responsibility whatsoever for:
- Loss of data;
- Corrupted files;
- Deleted photographs;
- Lost contacts;
- Lost emails;
- Software corruption;
- Operating system failures;
- Application failures;
- Factory resets;
Encryption issues.
Repair procedures may require software updates, resets or replacement of storage components which could result in permanent loss of data.
Customers acknowledge that any repair is undertaken entirely at their own risk in respect of data stored on the device.
15. Passwords, PIN Codes & Activation Locks
Certain repairs require access to the operating system in order to complete testing.
Where required, Customers shall provide:
- Device PIN codes;
- Passwords;
- Pattern locks;
- Apple ID access where necessary;
Google account access where necessary.
If access credentials are not provided, Phones & Things Ltd reserves the right to return the device without confirming full functionality.
Phones & Things Ltd accepts no responsibility for untested features where access has been restricted by the Customer.
Devices protected by activation locks which prevent lawful repair may be refused.
16. Water Damage Repairs
Devices that have suffered liquid or water damage present a significantly increased repair risk.
Corrosion frequently continues after liquid exposure and internal damage may not become apparent until the device has been dismantled.
Accordingly:
No successful repair can be guaranteed.
A device may cease functioning completely during diagnosis.
Additional faults may become apparent after cleaning.
Replacement components may reveal further hidden damage.
Phones & Things Ltd provides no guarantee that water-damaged devices can be repaired successfully or remain reliable following repair.
17. Pre-Existing Damage
Many devices submitted for repair already contain existing damage.
Examples include:
- Cracked displays;
- Bent frames;
- Broken housings;
- Liquid damage;
- Internal corrosion;
- Missing screws;
- Damaged flex cables;
- Broken clips;
Previous repair work.
Where existing damage is present, removal of components may result in additional failure despite reasonable care being exercised.
Phones & Things Ltd shall not be liable where pre-existing damage contributes to further failure during or after repair.
18. Previous Repairs
Devices previously repaired by third parties may contain:
- Non-original components;
- Incorrect screws;
- Damaged connectors;
- Missing parts;
- Excessive adhesive;
Modified circuitry.
Such work may significantly increase repair complexity.
Phones & Things Ltd accepts no responsibility for faults arising from previous repair work undertaken by any third party.
19. Hidden Faults
During dismantling or testing, additional faults may become apparent that were not visible during the initial inspection.
Examples include:
- Swollen batteries;
- Motherboard damage;
- Charging circuit failure;
- Bent chassis;
- Internal corrosion;
- Camera faults;
- Face ID or fingerprint sensor faults;
- Speaker damage;
Liquid ingress.
Where additional faults are identified:
Repair work shall cease.
A revised quotation shall be provided.
No additional work shall commence until Written Approval has been received.
20. Right to Refuse or Stop a Repair
Phones & Things Ltd reserves the right to refuse or discontinue any repair where:
The device is considered beyond economical repair.
Suitable replacement parts cannot be obtained.
Continued repair is likely to cause further damage due to the existing condition of the device.
The device presents a health or safety risk.
There is reason to believe the device has been unlawfully obtained.
The Customer refuses to provide Written Approval where required.
Where repair is discontinued, the Customer shall be notified and offered the options set out elsewhere in these Terms & Conditions regarding return or disposal of the device.
- 21. Replacement Parts
Phones & Things Ltd will use replacement parts that we believe are suitable for the repair being undertaken.
Unless specifically agreed in writing before work commences:
- Replacement parts may be genuine manufacturer parts where available;
High-quality compatible parts may be used where genuine parts are unavailable, discontinued or uneconomical;
Refurbished original parts may occasionally be used where appropriate.
The Customer acknowledges that the use of compatible replacement parts may not be identical to original manufacturer components in appearance or specification but shall be selected with functionality and reliability in mind.
22. Parts Availability
Repairs are subject to the availability of suitable replacement parts.
Occasionally:
Manufacturers discontinue parts.
Suppliers become out of stock.
Import delays occur.
Parts fail quality inspection.
Prices change unexpectedly.
Where this occurs, Phones & Things Ltd reserves the right to:
- Delay the repair;
- Source an alternative suitable part;
- Offer an alternative quotation;
Cancel the repair.
The Customer will be informed as soon as reasonably practicable.
23. Repair Warranty
Where a repair warranty is offered, it applies only to the specific repair undertaken by Phones & Things Ltd.
The warranty does not cover:
- Accidental damage;
- Liquid damage;
- Cracked screens;
- Physical impact;
- Customer misuse;
- Software installed by the customer;
- Virus or malware infection;
- Normal wear and tear;
- Battery degradation unless the battery itself was replaced;
Any fault unrelated to the repair completed.
The warranty becomes void if:
- The device is opened by another repair company;
- Additional repairs are attempted by any third party;
- Components are replaced or modified after our repair;
Evidence of misuse or accidental damage exists.
Nothing within this clause affects the Customer's statutory rights.
24. Refurbished Device Sales
Phones & Things Ltd specialises in supplying professionally refurbished electronic devices.
Refurbished devices are pre-owned products that have been inspected, tested and prepared for resale.
Unless expressly stated otherwise:
Devices are not sold as brand new.
Minor cosmetic signs of previous use may be present.
Cosmetic wear consistent with normal previous use does not constitute a fault.
Product photographs are representative only.
Each refurbished device is tested prior to dispatch to confirm that it is functioning as intended.
25. Cosmetic Condition
The cosmetic condition of refurbished products may vary.
Examples include:
- Light surface scratches;
- Minor scuffs;
- Small marks;
- Minor casing wear;
Previous handling marks.
Such cosmetic imperfections do not affect the performance or intended operation of the device and shall not normally constitute grounds for rejection unless materially different from the product description.
26. Batteries
Rechargeable batteries are consumable components.
Battery performance naturally reduces over time through normal usage.
Unless a battery has been specifically replaced or its condition expressly stated at the point of sale, Phones & Things Ltd cannot guarantee the remaining lifespan or future performance of any battery supplied within a refurbished device.
Where a new battery has been installed during repair, any warranty shall apply only to manufacturing defects and not to normal wear or gradual reduction in battery capacity.
27. Unrepairable Devices
Despite reasonable efforts, certain devices cannot be successfully repaired.
Examples include:
- Severe motherboard failure;
- Extensive liquid damage;
- Fire damage;
- Excessive corrosion;
- Multiple internal failures;
- Parts no longer available;
Repairs becoming commercially uneconomical.
Where this occurs, Phones & Things Ltd shall notify the Customer in writing.
The Customer may then choose one of the following options:
- Have the device returned (return postage payable by the Customer);
- Authorise further work if available;
Authorise secure recycling or disposal.
No device shall be disposed of without the Customer's prior written authorisation.
28. Return Postage
Where:
- The Customer declines the repair;
- The repair cannot be completed;
- The repair becomes uneconomical;
- Replacement parts are unavailable;
the Customer shall remain responsible for any applicable return postage charges.
Devices will not normally be returned until any agreed postage charges have been paid.
29. Device Disposal
If the Customer decides not to have an unrepairable device returned, Phones & Things Ltd may recycle or dispose of the device responsibly.
However:
No device shall ever be destroyed, recycled or disposed of without the Customer first providing Written Approval.
Written authority must be received by email or another approved written communication method.
Verbal instructions shall not be accepted.
30. Collection of Completed Repairs
Where collection has been agreed, the Customer will be notified once the repair has been completed.
Customers should collect their devices within a reasonable period following notification.
Proof of identity may be requested before releasing repaired devices.
31. Storage of Uncollected Devices
Following completion of repairs or notification that a device is beyond economical repair, Phones & Things Ltd may retain the device pending collection.
Where a device remains uncollected for an extended period, reasonable attempts will be made to contact the Customer using the details provided.
If, after 90 days from written notification, the device remains uncollected and the Customer has failed to respond despite reasonable contact attempts, Phones & Things Ltd reserves the right to dispose of or recycle the device in order to recover storageand administration costs, subject to applicable law.
Where reasonably practicable, a final written notice will be issued before disposal.
32. Replacement Devices
Where, in exceptional circumstances, Phones & Things Ltd agrees to replace rather than repair a product, the replacement device may be:
- Refurbished;
- Of equivalent specification;
- Of equivalent functionality;
Of similar cosmetic condition.
A replacement shall constitute full resolution of the original claim unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions limits the Customer's statutory rights.
37. Refusal of Service
